Stonewall Democrats of Western New York is proud to announce our endorsement of Andrew Cuomo and Robert Duffy, for the next governor and lieutenant governor of our great state of New York.  As our Attorney General, Andrew Cuomo has built a proven track record of standing up for what is right—and getting results. Andrew Cuomo has what it takes to clean up the current dysfunction of our state government and fight corruption. Andrew Cuomo has what it takes to run government more efficiently and—most importantly—ensure that each New Yorker is treated equally under the law.

“Andrew Cuomo supports all of our equality,” said SDWNY President Bryan Ball. “Andrew Cuomo supports Marriage Equality and Gender Expression Non-Discrimination. And with him as our next governor, our newly elected Democratic and pro-equality state legislature and Governor Cuomo will make the much needed legislation for gender expression and marriage equality a reality.”

We are especially thrilled to support Rochester Mayor Robert Duffy for Lieutenant Governor. Mayor Duffy has, while mayor of the city of Rochester, been a commendable advocate for LGBT civil rights and marriage equality—and we are confident he will continue fighting the good fight as our next lieutenant governor.

Stonewall Democrats of Western New York are thrilled to support Andrew Cuomo for NYS Governor, and Mayor Robert Duffy for Lieutenant Governor. Andrew Cuomo and Robert Duffy are the right candidates, at the right time, for the equality of our great state of New York State.

With the election now underway, we are faced with seemingly daunting challenges. Republican candidates (and some Democrats) who oppose our equality are running for office from NYS Governor, to Attorney General, to Congress, and to the State legislature.

And now is the time that we stand up for our pro-equality Stonewall candidates and make sure they are victorious in November. At our recent Marriage Equality New York Wedding March in Buffalo, elected officials like Assemblymember Sam Hoyt and Senator Antoine Thompson talked about the realities of GENDA and Marriage Equality as soon as next year-- should the Democrats retain and gain a pro-equality majority.

As Stonewall Democrats, we have to make this dream a reality. We are looking to do phone bank nights, canvass days and other get out the vote efforts such as our soon-to-be-announced GOTV Candidate Rally-- and we need your help. If you are interested in volunteering to take part in our phone bank nights for Sam Hoyt, Antoine Thompson, or any of our other candidates-- please contact Bryan at 716-541-5557 or email Bryan_Ball@sdwny.org.

We can do this, and this November, equality-- for ourselves, children and families-- will triumph over the politics of hate at the polls.

Catherine Nugent Panepinto and Judge Eugene Fahey for NYS Supreme Court

This week, Erie County Democrats endorsed 5 candidates for the 5 open seats on the New York State Supreme Court. Earlier this summer, SDWNY interviewed interested candidates, including Judge Eugene Fahey, Judge Jeanette Ogden, Judge Betty Calvo-Torres, Judge Debra Givens and Catherine Nugent Panepinto. Afterward, we rated all 5 as well qualified judicial candidates.

Now that the candidates who will run have been selected by delegates elected during the primary, SDWNY has endorsed the two of our candidates who will be on the ballot this November: Catherine Nugent Panepinto and Judge Eugene Fahey.

As an accomplished community leader, Catherine Nugent Panepinto will bring her great intellect and sense of fairness to the New York State Supreme Court. And we are confident that with Judge Fahey's reelection, he will continue his great service as Supreme Court Justice for our state.

Tim Kennedy for NYS Senate, 58th District

Stonewall Democrats of Western New York is announcing our support for Erie County Legislator Tim Kennedy, the Democratic candidate in the 58th Senate District. In the political statement of the year, Kennedy resoundingly defeated incumbent Senator Bill Stachowski-- replacing a no vote on Marriage Equality in the State Senate with a legislator who will vote yes.

But Kennedy's-- and our-- work is not yet done. With the general election now facing us, the race for the 58th District pits Kennedy against well known Republican and opponent of equality Republican Assemblymember Jack Quinn III. So much rests on this race-- namely, the control of the New York State Senate and, in turn, the future of the Gender Expression Non-Discrimination Act and Marriage Equality here in New York.

In the beginning of the year, one of the goals we as an organization set was the protection of incumbents who supported equality, and the defeat of those who did not. With Tim Kennedy, our goal of turning an anti-equality seat to a pro-equality seat will come to pass.
